21 ராமர் பாலமும் அரசியலும்

இந்தப் பதிவு ராமர் பாலத்தைப் பற்றி தெளிவுபடுத்தும் பதிவு. இதில் நிறைய Technical Terms உள்ளதால் ஆங்கிலம் உபயோகிக்கப்படுத்தியுள்ளேன்:

"Isthmus" is a narrow strip of land that connects two large land areas.
There are many famous examples:

1) Isthmus of Panama which connects North America and South America:

2) Isthmus of Suez which connects Africa and Asia:

3) Similarly there was a small strip of land that connected India and Srilanka:





That strip of land linked Rameswaram in India with Talaimannar in Srilanka

This strip of land was well above the sea level before 6000 B.C. But the sea level rose by 20 meters during 6000B.C. This rise in sea level submerged the narrow land mass.The higher portions of the land strip are even now visible as small islets i.e small islands (மணற்திட்டுகள்). (இத்தகைய மணற்திட்டுகளில்தான் அகதியாக வரும் ஈழ மக்களை தவிக்கவிட்டு போய்விடுவார்கள் படகோட்டிகள், அது வேறு கதை)
This is the scientific origin of "Ramar Bridge". Ramar Bridge's official name is "Adams Bridge"


There is lot of geological and literature evidence that the sea level rose.
The literature evidence is present in Tamil Sangam literature which talks about a catastrophic flooding of sea which submerged many cities.
The flooding was callled "kadaRkoL" (கடற்கோள்). The submerged land was called "kumarikkaNtam" (குமரிக்கண்டம்).
Just like Vairamuthus of today sang about 2004 Tsunami, the sangam poets have sung about this "kadaRkoL" event of the past.

NASA has NEVER said it is a bridge or that it is artificially built.
Only pro-Hindu websites claim that. One evidence against the "Bridge" not being man-made is that the "Bridge" is curved and not straight.

Even a simple construction guy will know that bridges are cheaper, use less material and are faster to construct if they are staright. (நேராக இருந்தால்தான் கட்டுமானப் பொருளையும், நேரத்தையும் சேமிக்க முடியும். இது கடவுளான ராமருக்குத் தெரியாதா? சீதையை மீட்க துடித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும் ராமன் நேர விரயம் செய்வான் என்பது நம்பமுடியவில்லை)

Now lets come to the significance of this geographical feature:

Constructing a sea passage (canals) across such Isthmus shortens sea routes and saves journey time for ships. Ports that are along the shorter route will benefit from ship traffic. Examples are Panama Canal, Suez Canal etc. In similar manner to save the journey time of ships that go around Srilanka, the "Sethu Samudram Project" was initiated to deepen the Palk Strait (the Ramar Bridge is present in this strait).

This Sethu Samudram Project is not as big as Panama Canal or Suez Canal projects because the isthmus is already submerged under sea and only in some places it is projects out of sea as sand islets or small islands. As part of Sethu Samudram Project, it is required only to deepen the sea floor so that ships can safely travel. (Ships require a minimum sea depth so that they can sail safely without getting grounded). (கிணற்றை தூர் வாரி ஆழப்படுத்துவது போல் இங்கு கடலை ஆழப்படுத்தவார்கள். )

If Sethu Samudram Project is implemented, then ships will sail through Palk Strait rather than around Srilanka. Traffic in ports like Thoothukdi will increase and generate more revenue. So Sethu Samudram Project is like an investment to increase the revenue of Thoothukdi and other southern ports.

Now lets come to the cheap politics that is happening around it:
Accidents and machine breakages are quite common in huge construction projects like Dams or Canals.
For example: Around 25,000 workers died during the construction of the Panama Canal.
In Sethu Samudram Project, no significant human loss has happened as of now. Only Machine breakages. But Ramagopalan, Subramanya Swamy and other "Intelligents" are making a big and unnecessary issue out of this incidents of machine breakage. They are bringing in religion and kicking out logic. (I am not able to believe that Subramanya Swamy studied in Harvard ).

People have religious beliefs - that is their right. If scientific evidence shows that they are wrong, they may or may not change their opinion - that is still their right. But based on their WRONG belief how can they block a development project?
Here, is not the blind belief blocking the economy of India, particularly Tamil Nadu?
There is no wrong for these people to hold on to those beliefs and claims unless it is blocking the progress of the nation.
Is this how Hinduism and its mythology are going to be used against the economic progress of India?

What could be the reason for such behaviour from Ramagopalan and Subramanya Swamy?
I can think of only 3 reasons:
1) They dont want DMK/Vaiko/Congress to get the credit of initiating Sethu Samudram Project.
2) They want to create trouble in Tamil Nadu in the name of religion.
3) They cannot think beyond mythology.

மதமென்பது மனிதனின் மனதைப் பக்குவப்படுத்த வேண்டும். அதே மதத்தின் பின்னால் கண்மூடித்தனமாக சென்றால் என்னவாகும் என்பதற்கு இந்த நிகழ்ச்சி சிறந்த உதாரணம்.
